Roshan Houshmand<\/a><\/p><\/div>
\nBorn and raised in the Philippines from a Dutch-American mother and an Iranian father, Roshan Houshmand’s roots are steeped in ancient, exotic patterns and textures. Houshmand paints melodic fusions of the Eastern and Western traditions, making one a metaphor of the other and vice versa. <\/p>\n

She has a BA from Bennington College, an MA in Art History and an MFA in Painting from Rosary Graduate School of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy. Her work has been exhibited in Europe and the US, including New York, Los Angeles, Santa Fe, Barcelona, Brussels and Copenhagen. <\/p>\n

Houshmand has received multiple grants from the NY State Council on the Arts and the A. Lindsay and Olive B. O’Connor Foundation, the NY State Foundation for the Arts and the US Department of State Art in Embassies Program, for the exhibition \u201c21st Century American Women Artists\u201d at the US Mission to NATO in Brussels. Her physics-inspired paintings were featured on the Brookhaven National Laboratory\u2019s website and in Symmetry<\/em>. Houshmand\u2019s work are featured in Studio Visit<\/em> magazine, published by The Open Studio Press. She has received Special Merit Recognition for the Representation of Scientific\/Mathematical Principle\/Phenomena at \u201cThe Next Big Idea Festival\u201d in Los Alamos. Other major exhibitions include \u201cTotem\u201d at the Boca Raton Museum of Art, \u201cEvolving Perceptions\u201d at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., and Metras Gallery in Barcelona. <\/p>\n

Houshmand has taught art at Penn State University, The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, The Community College of Allegheny County (PA), and Escola Massana in Barcelona. <\/p>\n

She currently is an instructor of painting and art appreciation at the State University of New York at Delhi, NY. Her studio is in Andes, NY where she has lived since 2003.<\/p>\n\r\n\t
