{"id":604,"date":"2010-09-20T11:50:50","date_gmt":"2010-09-20T18:50:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chezarts.com\/?p=604"},"modified":"2010-11-05T23:27:27","modified_gmt":"2010-11-06T06:27:27","slug":"tasveer-image-identity-and-longing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.chezmana.com\/?p=604","title":{"rendered":"Tasveer: Image, Identity, and Longing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_595\" style=\"width: 308px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chezarts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/TasvirCropped_copyright.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-595\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-595 \" title=\"Nilou Farzaneh; Tasveer, Acrylic and mixed media on canvas\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chezarts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/TasvirCropped_copyright-298x300.jpg\" alt=\"Tasveer\" width=\"298\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-595\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tasveer<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Tasveer means image or representation. \u00a0Nilou\u2019s new painting <em>Tasveer<\/em> makes me think of the imagery and color used during the Qajar Epoch in Persia.\u00a0 That period was full of stylized depictions of Persian royalty, connecting them to the greatness of the ancient Persian Empire. \u00a0The Qajar paintings were a powerful vehicle for the expression of Persian culture and its aspirations.<\/p>\n<p>The Qajar ruler Fath \u2018Ali Shah made wide use of images to depict a revitalized Persian Empire, with himself at its center.\u00a0 The use of traditional settings and motifs conveyed a strong and easily understood message of continuity with the powerful Empires of the past. \u00a0The luminous red of the Shah\u2019s uniforms sets him apart from ordinary men, projecting authority and opulence.
